January Intentions

At this time of year there is always a lot on social media about setting new resolutions for the year and how beneficial it can be. Recently I have found more people are writing about the fact that this intention setting is unhelpful and you should just keep working on developing the best version of yourself, regardless of what time of year it is. It is widely documented that the majority of resolutions will be broken by February, so I do wonder what drives us all year after year to feel so empowered to set these January goals!

I personally don’t believe in setting hard resolutions, but I do find a new energy at this time of year. So in the spirit of the New Year and a new energy I am going to try and be more grateful, nurture positivity and set myself manageable goals each day. I find great satisfaction in completely a task, however small. I also believe that forming new habits will slowly encourage a behaviour change helping them to become second nature.

The mantra really is to start small, do it every day and then it will become your new normal. So instead of thinking about changing your whole diet, just start by saying I am going to drink more water today. This seemingly small change can be more easily achieved which gives you a sense of achievement and makes you feel positively about what you can accomplish tomorrow. It really is about helping me feel good about myself and being productive every day.

While the days remain short, remember that January comes and goes just like news year’s resolutions! So below are some of my top tips to help you get through the month of January.

My January wins

  • Getting outside in the fresh air every day - yes even if raining!

  • Setting one small goal to achieve each day.

  • Thinking of 3 things you are grateful for when you wake up each morning.

  • Positivity is infectious!
